The Parks & Recreation Department currently has 20 park and recreation facility areas under its jurisdiction totaling 467 acres of parkland in varying stages of development. City parks range in function and size from small, one-acre tot lots to a large youth sports complex. The Department also manages and maintains approximately 370 surface acres of water, which are utilized for outdoor boating, camping, fishing, and hunting activities.
The parks and recreation facilities and amenities under the jurisdiction and maintained by the Parks Sapulpa Parks Department include; (1) Aquatics Center, (1) Splashpad, (2) lakes, (2) recreation center buildings, (1) lake concessions/restrooms building, (1) lake bait shop facility, (11) picnic shelters, (4) outdoor park restroom buildings, (3) outdoor lake restroom units, (2) Sand volleyball courts, (10) baseball fields, (6) softball fields, (1) new girls softball complex concessions and restrooms facility, (8) soccer fields with concessions/restrooms building, (1) boat dock, (2) boat launch areas, (1) covered/heated fishing dock, (4) offshore fishing docks, (5) multi-purpose lighted trails, (1) arboretum, (12) playground areas, (1) disc golf course, (5) outdoor basketball courts, (1) R/V campground, Multiple tent camping areas, (182) park benches and picnic tables with charcoal grills, Park System’s entire tree canopy, shrubbery and landscaped areas. In addition, the Department plans, constructs, and supervises many capital improvement projects in parks, buildings, and on the grounds located within the City’s Park and Recreation System.
The City of Sapulpa’s Parks and Recreation Department is continually striving to keep pace with the challenge of providing “quality”, “benefits-driven” parks and recreation facilities, activities, and events designed to meet the ever-changing leisure needs of the Sapulpa Community. The Department protects and enhances the environment, both natural and man-made; plans and carries out the ongoing maintenance and development activities of the City’s Parks and Recreation System; supports the facilitation of community groups and organizations in the provision of a broad range of recreation services for all ages; and provides a wide variety of direct recreation programs and events for the Community as needed.” The City of Sapulpa Parks and Recreation Department and its staff, have succeeded in winning fifteen (15) State of Oklahoma Awards of Excellence for its staff ‘s contributions and leadership efforts on behalf of the City of Sapulpa and the Recreation and Parks Profession. Other Department achievements and recognition were received for exhibiting excellence in the fields of recreation and events programming, and facility design and construction.
The Aquatics Division has a separate stand-alone budget which accounts for all revenues and expenses as required for the operation of the new City Aquatics facility located at Liberty Park.
Staffing level consists of twenty-nine (29) staff members, all of which are all seasonal (summer) employees: 1 Aquatics Supervisor, 1 Asst. Mgr., 20 lifeguards, and 7 concessions/admissions clerks.
